The AFRO, the nation's longest-running African American owned newspaper, Endorses Retired Colonel Mike Rogers for Congress in Maryland's Third District

The AFRO endorsed Retired Colonel Mike Rogers in addition to President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris. Candidates secured the coveted endorsement from the venerated newspaper after review by the paper's editorial team.

“Our endorsement process includes valuable input from community members, particularly individuals who have a finger on the pulse of the issues at the grassroots level” said Dr. Frances “Toni” Draper, CEO and publisher of the AFRO

Rogers said that he was moved by the honor. "The AFRO is a cultural institution and serves a vibrant role in our communities and has unique value in a time where our democratic institutions, values, history, and voting rights are under attack. Theirs is an important voice for holding our institutions responsible and keeping faith with our communities."

Draper added that The AFRO "was the only outlet to endorse Wes Moore in the 2022 Democratic primary for Governor, before he was eventually elected Maryland’s first Black Governor later that year."  Mike Rogers remains a competitive race for the 3rd Congressional seat in Maryland where an estimated 60% of voters are still undecided as we head into the May 14, 2024 Primary.
